The Analogy of Faith
Analogy of Faith (according to Dr. Graham Cole; professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School). A rule of thumb - dating back to the Reformers - for interpreting the Bible; hence protecting you from heresy and the like)
- Use Scripture to understand Scripture - Never use Scripture against Scripture - Plain Scripture to understand obscure Scripture - “When we put a text, in its context, in its argument or literary unit, in its book, in the canon, in the light of the flow of redemptive history.”
